Kim Kardashian is no stranger to controversy but many are surprised that her brand is under fire by self-proclaimed conservatives. It’s no shocker that some of the political right have strong opinions about diversity and inclusion when it comes to race but most Americans never thought that a Skims Campaign including disabled women would set off a much needed discussion around inclusion in all aspects.

One person in particular, Candace Owens, responded to the Skims Adaptive Collection Campaign by saying.

“ I don’t really understand how far we’re going to take this inclusivity thing… If people that are in wheelchairs were thinking as they were looking around ‘you know what really upsets me… that I’ve never seen a bra and underwear advertised with a girl in a wheelchair.’ … Why did they do this? I don’t know, I don’t know why this needs to be done. I’m getting tired of this all-inclusivity thing. It seems ridiculous.”

Facing well-deserved backlash, the voices of our disabled community and allies spoke out against Owens with TikTok videos, tweets, and comments expressing how important seeing themselves in campaigns meant to them.

Other supporters expressed their disdain for Candace’s comments like Model Abigail Ratchford (Pictured Below). She tweeted, “Candace Owens is the human version of leachate. She's pure trash”.

Despite her thoughts that inclusion has “gone too far”  it still feels like there’s a long way to go to ensuring the world has a more accurate depiction of all people.
